Lydia Macpherson and Nick Mackinnon from Worth Valley Against Walshaw Moor Windfarm are doing a presentation to Oxenhope Village Council on 12 June, about the potential impact on Oxenhope of the construction of the wind farm – particularly from construction-related traffic.
The meeting is at 7.30pm, in the Methodist Church, West Drive, Oxenhope BD22 9LJ.

Last thing we heard from Oxenhope VIllage Council was at their 13th Dec 2023 meeting:
“The proposed wind turbine development on Walshaw Moor was discussed. The construction and maintenance could be very damaging to the environment.
“Approximately 16,000 HGV trips could be made to construct this site. The turbines will be twice as high as those at the current site at Ovenden. Cllr Pearce will continue to attend meetings with Parishes in Calderdale and report back.”
As for the estimated 16,000HGV trips to construct this windfarm, mentioned by Cllr Pearce, that’s based on the developers’ Scoping Report from last September. It assumes that the aggregate needed for construction of the proposed wind farm infrastructure would be excavated from on-site borrow pits.
But if Nick Mackinnon’s right about the developers having to bring in limestone aggregate, as the millstone grit/sandstone from on-site borrow pits wouldn’t be suitable, this would require 180 truck journeys/day for 2 years. One every 3 minutes, day in day out. And if my arithmetic’s correct that’s a mind-boggling 131,400 HGV trips to construct the windfarm- not 16,000.
Here’s a report on the most recent hill top parishes meeting in Calderdale with the developer on 13th December 2023.
From a recent meeting with Cavendish Consulting, we got the impression the developers have been backpeddling from their promised continued engagement with the hill top parishes and the public, in the expectation of an imminent General Election which will return a Labour government that will relax onshore wind planning regulations.
